Panasonic Bread Maker SD-YD250 Review

"I purchased this machine as a replacement for a Philips bread machine I've had for a couple of years. It's the third bread machine I've purchased for myself, and had bought its predecessor (the SD-250) for my Parents some time ago. My Philips packed up (the bread tin broke away from its base), and they don't make spares, so I have to throw the whole machine in the bin - definitely won't buy another Philips anything. My parents have been most impressed with the Panasonic, and it's been personally recommended to me by other people, so after reading all the reviews on Amazon.com I decided to buy one.

So, to the point, I'm thoroughly impressed with this machine. It is solid and quiet. I took the first loaf I made with it and sliced it to find an absolutely even loaf (even from the 1:55 rapid mode). All the other machines I've had have had some level of streaking or unevenness in the bread.

As for all the other criticism of the recipe book for its use of weight rather than volume measurements for flour, it is a far more accurate way of measuring flour for any baking. Also the manual has since been updated (no doubt as a result of these criticisms), and now shows the approximate volume equivalents in all the recipes. "

SD-YD250 Review 2

"Several years ago we got a Regal; it was pretty good but when the pan wore out in a couple years we had to replace it. Next was a Sunbeam of modest price but high rating. The Sunbeam took several months to learn how to use then worked ok for several years. Like the Regal, when the Sunbeam pan died we had to replace the whole unit. In our current and growing need to be more green this seems terribly wasteful. So after reading lots of reviews on Amazon and several other websites we settled on the Panasonic SD-YD250. Availability of replacement parts, strong reviews for reliability, durability, moderate price, and quietness helped us decide. While we've only had the unit for a couple weeks I am VERY pleased. This has been the easiest bread maker to learn to use (maybe due to years of experience) and produces the best bread ever - springy, fine textured and chewy crust. With 2 growing boys we are very glad for the very large loaf size. We will probably be making a loaf every 2-3 days. Where we live this saves us probably $2-$3 per loaf vs store bread and we know what is in it. The unit is quiet. The whole bread making cycle is 1-2 hours longer than with our previous machines but with the large loaf and very good quality, its worth the wait - I just have to plan ahead better. I thank the reviewer who alerted me to increasing the yeast used - I'm using 2tsp for Xlarge loaves. I've only made 3 loaves but they have been excellent and after the first loaf I didn't follow the recipe exactly - still with great success. Hope this one lasts as long as it has for other posters here. Hope parts stay available. I'd recommend this to a friend for sure."
